Quote of the Day: “The grace of God means something like: Here is your life. You might never have been, but you are because the party wouldn't have been complete without you.” ― Frederick Buechner
Texts: Psalm 148, Proverbs 9:1-12, 2 Peter 3:8-13
"But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowlness, but is patient with you..."
I tend to think of my "waiting places" as places in which I am waiting for God. As it turns out, I suppose it is equally likely that God is waiting for me. Thinking back to yesterday, "Even these may forget, yet I will never forget you." It is as though God is waiting for a whining child. Dragging our feet, our pants torn from having fallen over and over again (and our insistence that we will "do it ourselves," crying because we hurt, we yell at God and ask where God is. Attempting to earn our own grace, we fail to see the grace that abounds before us.
What a turn of events, then, when our ideas of patience and waiting are shaken up and placed on its head. What if, when we are walking through the wilderness, when we are at our most hopeless, are the times God is waiting for us?
Patience and waiting are two of my least favorite words; when I am the subject of those two words, five minutes may as well be five days. When, on the other hand, I am the object of those two words, I am forced to slow down long enough to realize I do not wait alone. God waits for us even as we wait for God... because God has decided the party wouldn't be complete without us.
